PREPARATION TIPS FOR SPEAKING:

Speaking plays an important role in PTE and it should be improved in the following way to score high.

a.      Read audibly
Develop the habit of reading long paragraphs loudly and record your voice in phone or recorder. Listen to the recording and it should be fluent, loud and clear. In case it is not then you should try again and again. Give proper punctuation pauses with full stops, commas, etc., while reading as it is examined while awarding the score.
 b.      Repeat Sentence
Improve your speech by repeating the sentences which seems difficult to pronounce. It will improve your speech and your voice will be clearer while speaking English in the required accent. You can practice meditation as this exercise needs lot of concentration. One can choose any method to enhance speaking skills.
 c.      Portray or describe an Image
Take any random image or graph and describe the facts given in it. PTE has questions related to it and it is better if you take mock test series and then practice from there. It will give you an idea about the type of images being asked in the task. It is very scoring if you practice it effectively. The significant trick to attempt such task is to do it without any break, do not stop in between. Your random thoughts will be deviated if you will stop. You can describe whatever comes in your mind while watching that graph or chart. Observe the impotent facts or features in the graph or picture and maintain your speech and thought sync. You have to be calm while attempting this question.
d.      Repeat Lecture or speech
Pick any random topic and speak on it using your insight. It helps in making random speech. Concentrate on your speech and the topic without looking anywhere or thinking anything else. Record the speech and try to repeat the same with any of your friends or family members. While relating it to others you can add some more points if it comes to your mind. It will improve your confidence and imagination.

PREPARATION TIPS FOR WRITING

For writing summarize texts, the candidates are supposed to summarize the given paragraph in their own words. The summary has to be written in 10 minutes and should be completed within 5 to 75 words. The summary should be written in a single sentence.

To enhance score in Summarize texts, the students should use the following tips and they are: -
1. The students should try to practice writing complex sentences and then use them wisely. It is because writing complex sentences is a tricky job where many students commit mistakes. Do avoid the usage of commas and semi-colons, if you don’t know their correct usage. The students should also work hard on usage of proper punctuation marks and capitalization.
2. The students often forget to summarize the given text in a single sentence. In many cases, they put a full stop and start with a new sentence. According to the given instructions, it is completely incorrect as you have to summarize the passage in one sentence. So, do try to complete your summary in just one sentence with word limits 5 to 75 words.
3. Remember connectors- FANBOYS in summarizing the text effectively in one sentence. FANBOYS stands for F (for), A (and), N (nor), B (but), O (or), Y (yet), S (so).

Which test is simple PTE OR IELTS?

PTE and IELTS tests are conducted for those candidates who wish to study or work abroad. It is held for the candidates belonging to the non-English speaking countries. English language proficiency is examined using various parameters by them. Choice between PTE and IELTS depends upon the candidates need as it is based on the country they want to work or study. Besides that one question always ponders into the minds of the aspirants about the difficulty level of these tests before appearing in it. Let us discuss some significant differences between them so that we can understand the both tests better before making any conclusion or decision about them.

Significant differences between PTE and IELTS

1.   PTE is a computer-based test where as IELTS is paper-based. Therefore, you need to record your voice and type your answers in PTE.

2.   IELTS has a speaking examiner and a writer examiner but PTE test assessment is done by smart software.

3.   IELTS assess the skills separately, such as listening skill and it is assessed by giving a listening based task only. In PTE, there are various questions which are a combination of two skills such as reading and writing task to access more of reading than writing, then listening and speaking to access speaking skills.

4.   IELTS access the language proficiency through reading, listening, speaking and writing tasks where as PTE examines enabling skills such as grammar, oral fluency, pronunciation, spelling, vocabulary, written discourse.

5.      In IELTS, one does not have any choice of time to take the test as the tests are held in the morning schedule and only on week days. Candidates appearing in PTE can take test at any time of the day as it is open for morning, noon or evening on all seven days of the week.

6.      IELTS is applicable to 140 countries around the world as this test is valid for job and study where as PTE is applicable only for 50 countries.

7.      IELTS has different types of questions in every test where as PTE has set of 20 different question types and each one of these types are asked in the test.

8.   IELTS timings are fixed but PTE Test timings vary from 2.5 to 3.5 hours.

After looking into the differences between IELTS and PTE, let’s write down the final conclusion: -

Before coming to any conclusions, we should reiterate that both these exams are designed, revised and assessed by English Language experts to judge proficiency of candidates through various types of exams. To be precise, there is no accurate answer to the question- Which test is simpler or tougher between IELTS or PTE?

The perception will vary from person to person. For instance, there might be few students who have difficulty in switching from one test to another while some may find typing in English to be too tough. If you are not good in typing then PTE exam will be tougher for you. On the other hand, if you are nervous in speaking to examiner then IELTS exam will be more stressful for you. In PTE exam, the listening skills are assessed by computer but on exam day there might be other people in the room and this can be distractive to you, as every candidate starts with the speaking part of the test.

The biggest advantage of PTE test is that it is conducted in the morning, noon, and evening schedules. So, it would be helpful for those who are lazy or careless enough to reach examination hall in time. IELTS test is held in morning schedules and is conducted only on week days.  In market, there is plenty study material available for IELTS test but PTE is a newly established test with limited study material. Likewise, there are various coaching institutes for the preparation of IELTS test while there are just handful PTE COACHING CLASSES IN JALANDHAR who are proficient in the preparation of PTE test. So, it makes the preparation of PTE test tougher than IELTS test. Hence, the choice between IELTS and PTE test should be made by aspirant’s choice, target, strengths and weakness and above all the reasons behind attempting these English proficiency exams. You first find the reasons and target properly and then make a wise decision between attempting these two tests.

There are many occasions where candidates unconsciously put a full stop and then go on to write another sentence. It is absolutely wrong as per the given instruction. You are supposed to put a full stop at the end of the sentence, and then use proper connectors and comma (if necessary) and write only ONE sentence.

You are challenged to write the idea of the given text in a single sentence of 5-75 words. Therefore, the proper usage of grammar plays a significant part. You are supposed to write a complex sentence with use of conjunctions and adverbs.

To assess speaking skills, the candidates will be tried and tested by their ability to produce spoken English in an academic environment.
While assessing writing skills, the candidates will be required to write responses in academic English by using accurate grammar and spelling.

Speaking: 1.1 Personal introduction

It is an opportunity for the candidates to give their selected institutions some information about themselves. They will have 25 seconds to read the prompt and prepare their response, and, thereafter, 30 seconds to record their response. This item will not be scored. It will be rather sent together with your score report to your selected institutions. The students will be able to record their answer only once.

READ ALOUD

For this item type, the candidates have to read a written text aloud.

The recording status box will show a countdown before the microphone opens. The candidate will have around 30-40 seconds to prepare, depending on the length, content and theme of the passage. Thereafter, you will hear a short tone. After this tone, you have to immediately start speaking. It is advisable not to start speaking before the microphone opens as your voice will not be recorded.
You are supposed to speak clearly and properly. Before the progress bar reaches the end, you are supposed to finish speaking. Thereafter, the word “Recording” will be changed to “Completed”.

The candidate’s score on Read Aloud is primarily based on three factors:
Content:  The response should include all the words which are given in the reading text. The content is assessed by counting the number of correct words in your response. It should be noted carefully that replacements insertions and omissions of words will severely affect your score.

Oral fluency:  The candidate’s response should demonstrate a flawless, effortless and normal rate of speech. Oral fluency is assessed by determining the smoothness of your rhythm, phrasing and stress. The best responses are those which are spoken at a constant and natural rate of speech with suitable phrasing. The students should avoid hesitations, repetitions and false starts as they will badly affect their score.

Pronunciation: The candidate’s response should demonstrate their ability to produce speech sounds which should sound similar to regular speakers of English language. Pronunciation is assessed by determining the understandability of your speech to most of regular speakers of English language. The best responses should comprise of vowels and consonants that are pronounced in a native-like way and stress should be correctly done on words and phrases. The candidate responses should be such that they are immediately understandable to a regular speaker of English language.
