How to clear speaking and writing section for PTE exam?

To appear in a PTE Academic test, one needs to go to a secure Pearson Test Center. You should be able to use a computer and headset to listen to, read and respond to questions as the questions are given online.
PTE has three-hour session with three parts such as speaking and writing (combined), listening and reading. There is also a not obligatory 10-minute break between the reading and listening parts.  The test includes twenty different question formats, ranging from multiple choices to essay writing and interpreting in sequence.
PTE Academic is held to assess real-life, academic English, therefore you will attend to excerpts from lectures and view graphs and charts. You will perceive sound in a range of accents in the test, from British and American to non-native speakers, hence you will be given an exposure to the type of accents that you will be facing every day.

Let us discuss in detail how to prepare for speaking and writing skills which is the part 1 of PTE EXAM.

SPEAKING AND WRITING SKILLS TIPS

In this part, candidates will be examined for their speaking and writing skills. The time allotted to this section is 77-93 minutes.
To assess speaking skills, the candidates will be tried and tested by their ability to produce spoken English in an academic environment.
While assessing writing skills, the candidates will be required to write responses in academic English by using accurate grammar and spelling.

Speaking: 1.1 Personal introduction

It is an opportunity for the candidates to give their selected institutions some information about themselves. They will have 25 seconds to read the prompt and prepare their response, and, thereafter, 30 seconds to record their response. This item will not be scored. It will be rather sent together with your score report to your selected institutions. The students will be able to record their answer only once.

READ ALOUD

For this item type, the candidates have to read a written text aloud.

The recording status box will show a countdown before the microphone opens. The candidate will have around 30-40 seconds to prepare, depending on the length, content and theme of the passage. Thereafter, you will hear a short tone. After this tone, you have to immediately start speaking. It is advisable not to start speaking before the microphone opens as your voice will not be recorded.
You are supposed to speak clearly and properly. Before the progress bar reaches the end, you are supposed to finish speaking. Thereafter, the word “Recording” will be changed to “Completed”.

The candidate’s score on Read Aloud is primarily based on three factors:
Content:  The response should include all the words which are given in the reading text. The content is assessed by counting the number of correct words in your response. It should be noted carefully that replacements insertions and omissions of words will severely affect your score.

Oral fluency:  The candidate’s response should demonstrate a flawless, effortless and normal rate of speech. Oral fluency is assessed by determining the smoothness of your rhythm, phrasing and stress. The best responses are those which are spoken at a constant and natural rate of speech with suitable phrasing. The students should avoid hesitations, repetitions and false starts as they will badly affect their score.

Pronunciation: The candidate’s response should demonstrate their ability to produce speech sounds which should sound similar to regular speakers of English language. Pronunciation is assessed by determining the understandability of your speech to most of regular speakers of English language. The best responses should comprise of vowels and consonants that are pronounced in a native-like way and stress should be correctly done on words and phrases. The candidate responses should be such that they are immediately understandable to a regular speaker of English language.
