PTE and IELTS tests
are conducted for those candidates who wish to study or work abroad. It is held
for the candidates belonging to the non-English speaking countries. English
language proficiency is examined using various parameters by them. Choice
between PTE and IELTS depends upon the candidates need as it is based on the
country they want to work or study. Besides that one question always ponders
into the minds of the aspirants about the difficulty level of these tests
before appearing in it. Let us discuss some significant differences between
them so that we can understand the both tests better before making any
conclusion or decision about them.
1. PTE is a computer-based test where as IELTS
is paper-based. Therefore, you need to record your voice and type your answers
in PTE.
2. IELTS has a speaking examiner and a writer examiner
but PTE test assessment is done by smart software.
3. IELTS assess the skills separately, such as
listening skill and it is assessed by giving a listening based task only. In
PTE, there are various questions which are a combination of two skills such as
reading and writing task to access more of reading than writing, then listening
and speaking to access speaking skills.
4. IELTS access the language proficiency through
reading, listening, speaking and writing tasks where as PTE examines enabling
skills such as grammar, oral fluency,
pronunciation, spelling, vocabulary, written discourse.
5. In IELTS, one does
not have any choice of time to take the test as the tests are held in the
morning schedule and only on week days. Candidates appearing in PTE can take
test at any time of the day as it is open for morning, noon or evening on all
seven days of the week.
6. IELTS is applicable
to 140 countries around the world as this test is valid for job and study where
as PTE is applicable only for 50 countries.
7. IELTS has different
types of questions in every test where as PTE has set of 20 different question
types and each one of these types are asked in the test.
8. IELTS timings are fixed but PTE Test timings vary
from 2.5 to 3.5 hours.
Before coming to any conclusions, we should
reiterate that both these exams are designed, revised and assessed by English
Language experts to judge proficiency of candidates through various types of
exams. To be precise, there is no accurate answer to the question- Which test
is simpler or tougher between IELTS or PTE?
The perception will vary from person to
person. For instance, there might be few students who have difficulty in
switching from one test to another while some may find typing in English to be
too tough. If you are not good in typing then PTE exam will be tougher for you.
On the other hand, if you are nervous in speaking to examiner then IELTS exam
will be more stressful for you. In PTE exam, the listening skills are assessed
by computer but on exam day there might be other people in the room and this
can be distractive to you, as every candidate starts with the speaking part of
the test.
The biggest advantage of PTE test is that it
is conducted in the morning, noon, and evening schedules. So, it would be
helpful for those who are lazy or careless enough to reach examination hall in
time. IELTS test is held in morning schedules and is conducted only on week
days. In market, there is plenty study
material available for IELTS test but PTE is a newly established test with
limited study material. Likewise, there are various coaching institutes for the
preparation of IELTS test while there are just handful PTE COACHING CLASSES IN JALANDHAR who
are proficient in the preparation of PTE test. So, it makes the preparation of
PTE test tougher than IELTS test. Hence, the choice between IELTS and PTE test
should be made by aspirant’s choice, target, strengths and weakness and above
all the reasons behind attempting these English proficiency exams. You first
find the reasons and target properly and then make a wise decision between attempting
these two tests.
